With a running length of around 45
minutes (including the bonus material) this is a nice reminder of Prince's
UK appearances in promotion of the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic release.
Obviously the opening broadcast from BBC's The O-Zone is in support of the
Newpower Soul LP and doesn't fit in with the "Rave" theme of the remainder
of the footage on here, but it's a mere observation as the release is titled
'98/99 UK Sampler'. I'm informed all the footage on here is culled from 1st
generation VHS recordings, and it's apparent as you watch the footage and
there really is very little of me to be critical about regarding the quality
of the footage used. There's barely a glitch, a flaw or anything worthy of
me making reference to, and overall it's pretty impressive stuff. The
content is a whole other matter and 3 performances of 'Baby Knows' in
succession is a little repetitive -thankfully the excellent 'Prettyman' from
TFI is a saving grace. The release closes out with a 6 minute bonus
Arista/NPG promo for 'Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic' which includes some nice
(but brief) footage of Prince's performance with Sheryl Crow along with
comments from Clive Davis and Prince himself. The menu matches the quality
of the footage used and is superb and is the icing on an
already-quality-stuffed cake. An excellent release in terms of quality.
