Comments Deane's
Comments(rates this release 4.75/5.0) An odd mix of outakes and demos. Gotta Stop (Messin About)
sounds like the released version and I doubt Suzie Lovelace (a Brown Mark track)
has any Prince invovlement. The Early version of Tick Tick Bang is great to have
as is the 15 minute jam called U Gotta Shake Something. Miss Understood has
Susannah on vocals and is a forgotten Family track. Includes a 12 page booklet
with track information and pix from various periods.
Dale's
Comments(rates this release 5/5.0) A magnificent collection of early material. 'Broken' is in
the 'Jack U off'/'Horny toad' vein though perhaps a little better than both of
those. The real surprise here is 'Tick, tick bang' in its original form from
1981 - it's bouncy, funky and pretty funny. The demo to 'Something in the water'
sounds stronger than the version he did release, while 'Computer blue' is here
in all of its original 11-minute glory. The only oddity is 'Suzie Lovelace'
which most likely had nothing to do with Prince at all. The overall verdict
though: essential.
